April Mandala Challenge

I have a very big milestone happening in April – I’m celebrating ten years of blogging! To help me celebrate, I’m inviting you to create a “Celebrating 10 Mandala.” For this mandala, incorporate an element of ten. You may divide the circle into ten sections, use ten colors, ten shapes, ten patterns…you get the idea! To get this challenge started, several mandala artists sent in their submissions early so I could include them in the video above. As each mandala arrived in my inbox, it felt like a gift, especially with the notes that they included. Thank you all for celebrating with me! My plan is to relaunch my True North Arts website in April. Stay tuned! ~ Kathryn Costa Challenge Details Create a mandala with an element of ten. For a closer look at the mandalas from the video look at the gallery below. Post a photo or scan of your mandala in the Sharing Circle. Include a congratulatory message. >>Not a member? March Mandala Challenge: Scavenger Hunt Mandalas

The topic for the March Mandala Challenge is Scavenger Hunt Mandala. I’m all about using what you already have to create mandalas. In this challenge, you’ll collect round shaped household items in various sizes to use as circle templates to create a mandala. It’s fun to look at every day familiar objects with a new lens. This challenge is to encourage you to play like you did when you were a kid. Have fun! Challenge Details Collect four or more objects that have a circle shape in various sizes. Do NOT use stencils for this challenge. It’s okay to use objects of other shapes for your mandala but you need at least four circles. Trace the circles starting with the largest circle to the smallest to create a progression of concentric circles. Use a straight edge to draw some guidelines and to break up the circle into four or more sections. Fill the circle with shapes, patterns, and colors. Use any medium. Mandala Story: Catz’s Transformation

We often hear about how relaxing and healing it is to create and color mandalas. I met up with Catz, a member of the 100 Mandalas Sharing Circle, to talk about how she went from quietly watching other members share their mandala art to winning a t-shirt at Mandalafest and getting the encouragement to post her first mandala. Since her first mandala, Catz’s mandala journey led her to discovering more than how to draw mandalas, she grew in confidence to say, “Yes!” to her dream of traveling and say, “No!” to unhealthy relationships. I’m so proud to know Catz. She is a joy and bright light in our mandala community. Watch this interview. I hope it inspires your mandala practice. Join us! The 100 Mandalas Sharing Circle is free. January Mandala Challenge: Mandala Inspiration Wheel

I’m delighted to announce a new series to inspire your muse called the Monthly Mandala Challenge. Look for a video each month that introduces the theme, contest details, and the prizes. Project Theme for January: Mandala Inspiration Wheel One day while looking at my wall on Facebook, I noticed a really cool video clip of a fidget spinner whirring above a hand-painted mandala with the question, “What gift can you give yourself more of today?” The possible answers delighted my heart – ease, novelty, play, stillness, rest, adventure… I clicked through to my friend Tonia Jenny’s Facebook wall and saw that she had created some other Fidget Spinner Fortunes that posed more heart expanding questions and answers. What can you give yourself more of this week? What will support your dreams today? What is your soul asking for? I’m a DIY kinda gal and thought, I want to make one! But wait, I’d love to see what my mandala family would create. I reached out to Tonia and she generously offered to be the first …

Inside the Circle – What’s Happening at 100 Mandalas

Dear Mandala Friends, You never know when you make a difference in someone’s life. Yesterday, I received a message on Facebook from someone whose life has been changed by my mandala book and the 100 Mandalas Challenge. Bev from Wales writes: Hi Kathryn, I just wanted to tell you how much of a difference buying your book and doing the 100 days mandala challenge has changed my life. I’m in my 50’s and since being told I couldn’t draw as a child, have been blocked creatively all my life. Over the last few years it has felt as though I have been in labour – literally, a feeling of wanting to draw but not knowing where to start. I tried countless times but just couldn’t get past a stick person or a few scribbles on the page. In March, I started your challenge & the floodgates opened – on all levels……… I have suffered insomnia all my life – not since drawing mandalas, I have more energy – I suffer from ME, but most of …

Total Eclipses & Mandalas

Here in the US we are anticipating the total solar eclipse tomorrow, August 21st. This is the first one to be visible since 1979. While many people will be in a region to view it, everyone in the US can catch a partial eclipse. Here’s a cool tool that maps when and what you’ll see in your location. If you are concerned about missing it, not to worry. Lena from the Power Path School of Shamanism writes, “It really does not matter energetically, only psychologically. But with that said, this is definitely a time to honor a marker of huge change and the agent of a massive reset. Even if you have been working with these energies now for the past weeks, it is always good to honor the exact time frame around this event. What can you do? Be aware, through a list or a mental awareness, of what you are resetting. Do something that symbolizes coming into a still point, an unplugging, a dropping into the void. Acknowledge the absence of the sun …
